Workshop #1: 11:00am-11:45am Comprehensive Inclusion Process + Online Inclusion Based Resources

Pt. A (30 min) - Comprehensive Inclusion Process:

  • Introduction to Spectra Gymnastics
  • Scope of Comprehensive Services
  • Best Practices for Staffing
  • Program Management
  • Intake & Class Placement Procedures

Pt. B (15 min) - Online Inclusion-Based Resources:

  • Current Online Programs Offered


Workshop #2: 12:00pm-11:45pm - Gymnastics Therapy

Overview of common developmental & intellectual disabilities and characteristics you will likely encounter in your facility.

Overview of developmental milestones & common deficits / delays

Discussion of various therapeutic benefits gymnastics can provide to neurodiverse students, including emotional regulation strategies, sensory integration, motor development and confidence building.


Workshop #3: 1:00pm-1:45pm - Profitability of Special Needs Programming – Bringing in Revenue after COVID-19

Overview of core concepts of modalities: Therapeutic, Recreational, Social Play

Demonstration of current programs offered at Spectra and NEW, innovative services Post-Covid-19.

You will learn about class ratios, pricing and unique ways to adapt to new ways of operating inclusive programs with new social distancing restrictions & guidelines.

The goal is to show our audience that with strategic programming and pricing structures, you can sustain profitability as you prepare to re-open, adapt and thrive!

Workshop Format:

  • Each workshop is scheduled to run for approximately 45 minutes.
  • Upon conclusion of the presentation portion, there will be a Q&A session.
  • Any remaining time will be taken as a quick break before the next presentation.


Karissa Johnson is the proud owner of Spectra Gymnastics, a specialized studio catering to individuals impacted by an array of developmental & intellectual disabilities. Her programs are carefully designed to create a culture of inclusion while supporting many areas of each student’s personal development.
Through Spectra’s unique programs, curriculum & games, students have a multitude of opportunities to support development in cognition, social, executive functioning, recreation, sensory integration, motor development and much more! Following her extensive training in ABA therapy, Karissa successfully launched her company in 2014, which has grown to be a known, valued resource in her community.

Fueled by a passion for serving others, Karissa loves sharing her knowledge & experience with others, and sharing her passion for advocacy towards inclusion across the world. She is honored to be a part of Gymnastics B.C.’s virtual conference this year.
