AB’s Olympic coach Tony Smith named the National Team Director for Men’s Artistic Gymnastics

Gymnastics Canada is very pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. Tony Smith as the new National Team Director – Men’s Artistic Gymnastics.   As an Olympic Games (3) and World Championships (7) coach, Club Head Coach (University of Calgary), NCCP Level 4 coach, and passionate volunteer on Provincial and National committees, Mr. Smith brings a broad range of knowledge and expertise to this position. His professional work experience, knowledge of the Canadian club based system, passion for excellence and communication & interpersonal skills will be great assets for the federation.

Mr. Smith was educated and trained in Canada, and has a very good understanding of the Canadian gymnastics delivery system and a leadership style that brings people together. He is passionate about gymnastics and very excited to join the Gymnastics Canada staff.

As the MAG National Team Director, Mr. Smith will be responsible for the leadership, direction and management of the Senior, Junior and Age Groups National Team programs, within a club-based system. He will work closely with the clubs and coaches of National Team athletes, the High Performance gymnastics community and other technical advisors to the National Team programs.

Mr. Smith is truly committed in developing a close and solid working relationship with all the National Team and High Performance coaches in Canada and the Provincial and National partners.

Mr. Smith will start his new full time duties on January 7th, 2013.
