Alberta Acrobatic Gymnasts Come Home with 3 medals from Pan American Championships
The Canadian Acrobatic Gymnastics team had an incredible showing at the 2019 Pan American Championships this past weekend in Monterrey, Mexico. In total, Canada walked away with a total of 22 medals. 3 of those medals (1 gold and 2 bronze) were earned by Alberta athletes.
In the 11-16 women's pair category, athletes Olivia Pham and Emily Pitters of Capital City Gymnastics Centre earned bronze in the balance event and gold in the dynamic event; Alberta's first-ever Pan American Championships gold medal. “I was pleasantly surprised to win this medal. My partner Emily and I worked really hard for this, and this will help me gain confidence for the upcoming season,” said Pham who is coached by Lewis Anderson and Anna Godek. “I was very proud to represent my country, and very honoured to be here competing in an international competition.”
This is the first international competition that Capital City Gymnastics Centre has had athletes named to the Canadian team so to also win Alberta's first gold medal was a huge accomplishment.
The other bronze medal was won by fellow Capital City gymnasts, Janiya Ericson, Tatum Stock and Keira Weber, in the dynamic event of the 11-16 women's group category.
The next big competition that athletes will be seeking Team Canada qualification for, is the 2020 FIG World Age Group Competitions which take place in Geneva, Switzerland from May 20th to 26th.
