Four Alberta Athletes to Represent Canada at Trampoline Worlds in Tokyo, Japan

Gymnastics Canada has announced the athletes, coaches, judges, and staff who will represent Canada at the FIG World Championships in Trampoline Gymnastics taking place in Tokyo, Japan from November 28 to December 1, 2019. Among them are Alberta athletes Antonio Fernandes, Kalena Soehn, Keegan Soehn, Callum Sundquist, Mark Armstrong (alternate) and Team Coach, Trish Quinney.

The top-8 finalists in the men’s and women’s trampoline competitions will qualify for the 2020 Olympic Games while double mini-trampoline (DMT) and tumbling gymnasts will vie to qualify for the 2021 World Games in Birmingham, USA. The event will take place at the Ariake Gymnastics Centre, which will set the stage for all disciplines of gymnastics at the upcoming Olympic Games.

Below is a summary of the events Alberta athletes will be competing in:

Men’s Synchronized Trampoline

  • Keegan Soehn, Red Deer, AB – Thunder Country Trampoline & Gymnastics

Men's Individual Trampoline

  • Keegan Soehn, Red Deer, AB – Thunder Country Trampoline & Gymnastics

Men’s Tumbling

  • Callum Sundquist, Sherwood Park, AB – Phoenix Gymnastics Club
  • Antonio Fernandes, Calgary, AB – Calgary Gymnastics Centre

Women’s Double Mini-Trampoline

  • Kalena Soehn, Red Deer, AB – Thunder Country Trampoline & Gymnastics

Men’s Double Mini- Trampoline

  • Callum Sundquist, Sherwood Park, AB – Phoenix Gymnastics Club
  • Alternate: Mark Armstrong, Red Deer, AB – Calgary Gymnastics Centre

Team Coach

  • Trish Quinney – Phoenix Gymnastics for DMT
