Saskatoon’s Anderson Loran dominates at Elite Canada gymnastics meet
SHERWOOD PARK, Alta., -- After winning the men’s senior all around title on Friday, gymnast Anderson Loran of Saskatoon capped an impressive performance at Elite Canada on Saturday, winning four more individual event medals including gold on high bar.
“I didn’t really think about winning the all around title coming into the meet until the last event and then I realized I had a really good shot at it and went out and hit my last routine,” said Loran.
In the event finals on Saturday, Loran came close to crashing on high bar, his best event, but managed to pull through for the victory.
“On my second skill I was supposed to hit handstand and I almost fell the wrong way so I bent my legs and fought through it to finish first.”
Loran also finished in the top three on parallel bars, rings and pommel horse.
Other winners on Saturday were Robert Watson of Coquitlam, B.C. on floor, Ken Ikeda of Abbotsford, B.C. on pommel horse, Scott Morgan of Vancouver on rings, Jayd Lukenchuk of Saskatoon on parallel bars and Hugh Smith of Halifax on vault.
In the men’s junior competition, René Cournoyer of Montreal won the all around title.
On the women’s side, Shallon Olsen of Coquitlam, B.C. won her second straight Elite Canada all around junior title, followed by Heaven Latimer of Burford, Ont., and Aleeza Yu of Richmond Hill, Ont.
Ollsen placed first on vault, floor and uneven bars and was seventh on beam.
In the women’s novice event, Megan Roberts of Toronto took the overall title.
In other events, David Sandro of Georgetown, Ont., and Sam Zakutney of Ottawa won the all around titles in the argo and tyro classes respectively.
