Three Canadians elected to key leadership positions with International Gymnastics Federation

OTTAWA -- Three Canadians have been re-elected to positions with the International Gymnastics Federation (FIG).

Elected Friday at the 2012 FIG Congress in Cancun, Mexico, were Slava Corn of Toronto as first vice-president on the Executive Committee, Stephan Duchesne of Montreal as second vice president of the Trampoline Technical Committee and George Stewart of Calgary as a member of the Appeal Tribunal.

Corn, a longtime Gymnastics Canada board member and the only woman to be elected to the FIG Executive Committee, was recently honoured at the Canadian Sport Awards with the Volunteer Achievement Award.
“We’re delighted to have Slava Corn in a leading role on the international stage as first vice president of FIG,” said Gymnastics Canada President/CEO Jean-Paul Caron of Ottawa.
Duchesne is the high performance director for Canada’s national trampoline team and Stewart is a Gymnastics Canada Board member and the past-chair of Gymnastics Canada.
Corn was re-elected for a 6th consecutive term on the FIG Executive Committee, while Stewart and Duchesne were re-elected for a third and second term respectively.
