Cheer Coach
Reports To: Cheerleading Program Coordinator Job Type: Part Time________________________________________ About Us: Grande Prairie Gymnastics Society is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing high quality programming while inspiring a foundation of excellence in our community. We focus on promoting fitness, skill development, and community spirit through gymnastics, cheerleading, parkour and licensed preschool programming. Job Summary: The Cheer coach is a key member of the Cheerleading Program, collaborating closely with members, athletes, and coaches of the Grande Prairie Gymnastics Society (GPGS). This role is responsible for coaching, guiding and mentoring cheerleading athletes to further achievement & success. Key duties include planning for and implementing developmentally appropriate cheerleading programs for athletes of all ages and abilities. The ideal candidate is an organized, dependable, and team-oriented individual who has technical expertise, emotional intelligence and a supportive coaching style.
Key Responsibilities: • Assist in designing and delivering developmentally appropriate cheerleading and movement instruction to children, youth, and adults of all abilities. • Conduct regular assessments of individual and team performance to track growth and ensure effective development and continuous improvement. • Thoroughly prepare athletes and teams for upcoming competitions and provide support by attending and guiding them during events. • Support the coordination and planning of competition schedules and programs, ensuring readiness and alignment. • Responsible for creating and distributing report cards and certificates as needed, ensuring accurate and timely recognition of athlete progress and achievement. • Maintain clear and consistent communication with the supervisor regarding athlete & team progress. • Foster a positive and collaborative work environment that builds commitment and trust. • Inspire and motivate athletes, offering support and encouragement to help them reach their full potential. • Actively engage in technical updating clinics and professional development. • Actively promote cheerleading within the community by participating in, supporting, and attending special events throughout the season. • Collaborate with the Summer Camp Supervisor to assist in organizing and coordinating Cheerleading Summer Camps, ensuring a well-structured and engaging program. • Oversee and support junior coaches by providing guidance, mentorship, and training, including participation in the CIT program and coaching clinics. Collaborate with the Cheerleading Coordinator to address disciplinary matters promptly and professionally, ensuring a positive and productive coaching environment. • Uphold facility safety standards by ensuring all health and safety protocols are followed, and by identifying, addressing, and reporting hazardous conditions or behaviors. • Address member concerns or feedback with professionalism and empathy. • Activate emergency procedures when required. • Additional tasks as assigned.
Essential Skills & Training: • Previous cheerleading experience as an athlete or a coach • Excellent communication skills • Ability to lead, motivate, and coach all age groups & abilities with empathy, patience and support • Exceptional interpersonal skills, with the ability to use tact, diplomacy, and mature judgment • Ability to maintain confidentiality • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision • Energetic team player with an outgoing, friendly, responsible, punctual, and adaptable attitude • Strong commitment to safety, ensuring safe work practices are implemented and maintained • Demonstrated ability to exercise sound judgment in interpreting and applying relevant regulations, policies, and procedures • Proven ability to manage change and resolve conflicts using effective conflict resolution techniques • Satisfactory Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector search • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
Preferred Qualifications: • International Cheer Union (ICU) Certification, minimum Level 3 • Experience coaching tumbling • Experience working with children • Thorough knowledge of Grande Prairie Gymnastics Programs • Respect in Sport for Activity Leaders certification • First Aid with CPR • NCCP certification (will be provided upon hire) Work Environment: • This is a part-time, onsite position (how many hours) Benefits: • Group Benefits package available Work Schedule: • Varies with evening, weekend and daytime hours
