Starting fall of 2020, your National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP) qualifications in the Coaching Association of Canada (CAC)’s NCCP database, “The Locker”, have been updated. NCCP programming for Artistic Gymnastics no longer includes Level 1, 2, 3, or 4.
The NCCP programs for Artistic Gymnastics are now called Gymnastics Foundations, Competition 1 (Introduction), Competition 2 (Introduction-advanced), Competition 3 (Development), and Competition 4 (Development-advanced).
Coaches with Level 1, 2, 3, or 4 Technical, Theory, or Practical components, after the date indicated above, you will notice that you have been given credit for the comparable current NCCP program. These credits will be identified as “Transferred” on your Locker transcript.
To maintain the new status given in the Locker, you will need to complete Make Ethical Decisions (MED) training and/or online evaluation within five years of the transfer taking effect.
NOTE: If you have taken the Gymnastics Foundations Theory course, MED training is delivered within the course, and you will only be required to complete the online evaluation if you require certified status.
If you fail to complete the above MED requirement within five years, it will result in a “non-renewed” status on your Locker transcript, and you will need to contact Gymnastics Canada or Alberta Gymnastics Federation (AGF) to determine your next steps to renew your certification.
IMPORTANT NOTE: If you have already taken MED training and/or passed the online evaluation, you are not required to take it again.
In addition, recent changes in the NCCP include an emphasis on coaching ethics and recognizing professional development and ongoing training as being essential for coaches. As a result of the transition to the current NCCP program, all coaches with a certified status will be subject to Maintenance of Certification and will be required to obtain professional development (PD) points to maintain their certification.
Please visit AGF’s NCCP Professional Development webpage to find more information on professional development opportunities and points. To apply for certification, please visit AGF’s NCCP Evaluation for Certification webpage.
Should you have any further questions, contact AGF at [email protected], GymCan at [email protected] or the CAC’s Coach and Partner Services team at 613-235-5000 / [email protected].

If you answered yes to any of the above – YOU’RE ALREADY ENGAGING IN ACTIVITIES THAT WILL EARN YOU PD POINTS!
Recognizing your professional development activities is a key element of our new programs. Kindly note that PD points will begin accumulating on January 1st, 2026.
LEVEL 3 CERTIFIED COACHES
Coaches who are certified Level 3 in Trampoline Gymnastics will transfer to NCCP Competition 3 (Development) certified status on their transcript. Similar to the other disciplines, there has been a significant increase in content from the old L3 Technical course versus the new Comp 3 TG course. There is an education update that you will need to complete within 5 years to maintain your certified status. The goal of this is to provide coaches with an update on skills that weren’t covered in the Level 3 course, or show their competencies at this level through evaluation. The following are the options:
There will be no cost for previously Level 3 Certified coaches, and you will earn PD points.
NEXT STEPS On January 1st, 2026, you will receive an email directly from The Locker indicating that your qualifications have been transferred. Please make sure you log-in to The Locker afterwards to ensure you have received the proper credits.
