Volunteering at Events

2 February 2026

We are grateful to the many members of our community who have stepped forward over the years to host outstanding competitive experiences for our Alberta athletes. As the sport returned to in-person competition post-COVID, clubs across the province rose to the occasion, delivering exceptional events despite significant challenges.

Now, five years post-COVID, clubs are facing rising costs and increased demands on time, resources, and capacity when hosting large-scale competitions. At the same time, interest in multi-disciplinary events that celebrate gymnastics across Alberta continues to grow.

In response, for Provincials 2026 and 2027, AGF will proudly serve as the lead host. By assuming this role, AGF will be able to better support clubs by providing:

  • Advanced notice of event location
  • Full-time staff to set up and run the event
  • Financial ownership of all event components (venue, catering, etc.)
  • Opportunities for sponsorship to help directly offset event costs

This new approach allows Federation staff to work closely together as the primary host—unless otherwise designated—to ensure a high-quality competitive experience for our athletes, coaches, officials, and families.

To support the successful delivery of the event, all participating clubs will be required to fulfill volunteer commitments based on the number of athletes registered for the Provincial Championships. This model helps keep registration fees manageable while ensuring the event can operate smoothly. Each Provincial Championships requires hundreds of volunteers across a wide range of roles, including admissions, set-up, tear-down, security, and on-the-floor support.

Clubs will receive an information sheet with volunteer sign-up details to share within their community once early-bird registration closes. Volunteer sign-ups will remain open until the final registration deadline.
